Il Camel Trophy è stato al tempo stesso sia un evento, che una mentalità ed un stato d’animo. E’ stato il raid automobilistico più famoso al mondo; nessuna manifestazione del genere è paragonabile per importanza e livello di Paesi partecipanti.
Si è svolto dal 1980 al 2000, in territori impegnativi, mettendo continuamente a dura prova sia gli uomini che i mezzi. Ai vincitori non veniva dato nessun tipo di montepremi, ma un semplice piatto di bronzo o trofeo. Una caratteristica importante non era l'agonismo fra gli equipaggi, ma lo spirito di gruppo nell'affrontare e superare assieme le difficoltà che si incontravano. Gli spostamenti si sono sempre effettuati in colonna, e ogni equipaggio si doveva interessare che l'equipaggio successivo lo seguisse senza problemi. In base al programma dell'organizzazione succedeva che il convoglio si fermasse per una prova speciale a punteggio, solo in queste occasioni ogni equipaggio era "contro" l'altro. Queste prove speciali erano le più disparate, da una prova di guida, a una prova di orientamento a piedi, a una costruzione di un prefabbricato. La classifica finale veniva fatta dalla somma dei punti ottenuti nelle prove speciali.

“Una vita, vivila” questo motto definisce al meglio lo spirito del Camel Trophy. Di notte dopo una lunga giornata sotto la pioggia, il fango, il caldo e molti insetti, gli uomini Camel Trophy si riuniscono attorno al falò e si raccontano...
Per me il Trophy non è stato soltanto un momento magico, ma un’avventura irripetibile. E' uno stile di vita, un “qualcosa” che ogni cameltrophysta ha dentro di sé e viene esaltato durante l’evento e continua anche nella vita di tutti i giorni, un “qualcosa” che ti seguirà per tutta la vita.
Se mi soffermo a riflettere, penso che soltanto qualche anno fa quando mi capitava di leggere sui giornali, o vedere qualche filmato del Camel Trophy, ho sempre pensato che per me sarebbe stato un sogno irrealizzabile solo partecipare. Ora mi trovo quì a raccontare la sua storia. A volte i sogni si realizzano.
The Camel Trophy was at the same time an event, a way of thinking and a state of mind. It has been the most famous car race in the world; no event of this kind is comparable in importance and level of the participating countries. The event took place from 1980 to 2000 , in dangerous areas, constantly putting under a hard stress both men and cars. The winners were not prized with any kind of trophy. An important feature was the competitive spirit between the teams, but the team spirit in overcoming and dealing with the difficulties always encountered. The final ranking was made by the sum of points obtained in the special stages. "One life , live it " is the motto woch best defines the spirit of the Camel Trophy. At night after a long day under the rain, in the mud, heat and many insects, the Camel Trophy men gathered around the campfire to tell about their stories... For me, the Trophy was not just a magical moment, but also an incredible adventure. It's a way of life, "something" that every cameltrophyst has inside himself and that is enhanced during the event, continuing during every day life. It's "something" that will follow you throughout your life. If I stop myself to think about this experience, I realize that only a few years ago when I read the newspapers, or I checked out some footage of the Camel Trophy, I always thought that for me it would have been an impossible dream just to participate. Now I am here to tell his story. Sometimes dreams come true.
