Era il 1986. La mia prima volta in Ladakh. Da solo. La scommessa? Compiere una solitaria “importante” su una grande montagna. La scelta era ricaduta sul Nun, 7135 metri, allora una vetta poco conosciuta, “scoperta” nel 1913 da Mario Piacenza, che presentava una grandiosa parete nord con una bella salita su ghiaccio e misto che nessuno aveva ancora pensato di salire da solo.
E’ stata un’avventura affascinante, anche se molto faticosa e a volte rischiosa a causa della assoluta solitudine; grazie a quella salita sono stato inserito, tra i pochi italiani citati, nel bel libro di Stephen Venables “Himalaya in stile alpino, le più belle imprese sulle montagne più alte del Mondo”.
It was 1986. My first time in Ladakh. Alone. The bet? Succeed in adcending an "important" new route solo, on a big mountain. The choice was the Nun, 7135 meters, an pretty unknown summit, "discovered" in 1913 by Mario Piacenza, who had a great north wall with a nice climb on ice and mixed terrain that no one had thought to climb alone.
It 'been a fascinating adventure, although very tiring and sometimes risky because of the absolute solitude; thanks to that ascent i was mentioned, as one of the few Italians, in the book of Stephen Venables' Himalaya Alpine-style, the finest companies in the highest mountains of the world.
